Example 1: Daily Travels

Here I have uploaded a picture from my camera from what was on TV tonight. And in case you’ve been living under a rock the past 30+ years, its the Muppets! This is a scene from the 1999 film Muppets From Space. The Muppets will be the focus of my blog because of their recent blockbuste smas film. Now I don’t care how old you are, but the Muppets should always have a place in your heart, they do mine thats for sure. From a design aspect, just the idea and the creation of these creaures and what Mr. Jim Henson was able to create is a sign of sheer brilliance. The Muppets ability to humor, entertain, teach, and confuse all at the same time is honetly amazing.

Example 2: Magazine

Here I have a copy of TIME magazine from 1990. It was an issue made to honor the life of Muppets creator Jim Henson. After Henson’s passing, the show took a bit of a break yet his dream has still lived on. Since his death, the Muppets have grown into social icons, with such things as Kermit and Miss Piggy having their own Stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. After several TV shows and numerous movies, the Muppets have touch multiple generations of fans. Henson’s dra was to create someting for the entire family, something that would make everyone feel good. Jim’s deam has come true.

Example 3: Website

Here I’ve found and uploaded the main page from the Muppets official website. As shown in the photo, all these characters brin something t the table. I personally love this photo because it shows some of the classic characters from the original Muppet Show interacting with some of te brand new characters. They may be viewed just as a TV show or a fictional charcters, yet they are truly more than that. They are everybody’s friend. Everyone grw up with the Muppets. That is how Jim wanted it to be. The way tht every Muppet has their own characteristics and attitude is a work of genius. The new Mppets movie is an instant classic in my book.

Example 1: Daily Travels

Here I have an image of a project I actually designed myself. For my 3d design class, I created a foam replica of the Detroit Lions mascot. The Lion I created was carved out of a giant block of foam and shaped and painted to resemble the Detroit Lions primary logo of a leaping Lin. This one is actually being poured out of a bottle of Gatorade and transforming into a Lion. I’m pretty pleased with how this turned out

Example 2: Magazine

Here I took a picture out of a local magazine that shows the most recent updated version of the Lions script logo and primary logo. The Lions went 0-16 in the 2008 season, after that, the management felt it was time for a change. So with that there was a more fierce looking leaping Lion and more modern style script. And of course new uniforms, nothing like a little bit of marketing trickery. Detroit had just changed their uniforms back in 2003.

Example 3: Website

Here I have an image of my favorite style of the Detroit Lions logo. This logo was used back in the 1950’s and 60’s. It is modeled after the logo for the Ford Mustang muscle car, seeing as the Lions organization is owned by Ford Motor Company. This logo I believe needs to resurface more often. It was used at midfield for the Lions 75th anniversary  game back in 2008, the 0-16 season. Yet things are getting brighter for the Honolulu blue and silver.

Example 1: Daily Travels

Here I have uploaded a picture that may look familiar to you. This is an image of the elevator floor in the Old Main building at Wayne State University. The floor engraved with the famous logo for Wayne State. I personally found his to be very creative, showing a sense of pride in our school. Yet it is odd why the other elevator does not bare the same logo.

Example 2: Magazine

Here I have an image that I found from a Wayne State sports program. This image features 2 of the WSU football players and an amzing backdrop shot of the Detroit skyline. I feel that this image should appear in more things around campus and in the city. There is no better mascot name too for this University, “Warrior,” a term used to describe all the people of Detroit. Perfect description.

Example 3: Website

Here I have a much lesser known image that relates to WSU. It is the old logo for when the University’s mascot was the Wayne State Tartars. The name stood from the early 1920’s until 1999 when the college decided to change the name because many people were unsure exactly what a Tartar was. This logo can still be spotted in some places across campus, you just need to keep your eyes sharp.

Example 1: Daily Travels

Here I have uploaded a picture that I took myself from Ann Arbor Stadium at the University of Michigan, also known as The Big House. This stadium is the largest in the country and fits the most people of any other stadium. Numerous records have been set here and attendance continues to grow. The atmosphere here is simply breath taking and what really draws my attention is how perfect;y laid out this place is. With the combination of the simply bowl style shape and the symmetric block M, plus the best colors ever, maize in blue. This place is a true work of art.

Example 2: Magazine

Here I have posted a picture of University of Michigan legend Desmond Howard. Howard was a cornerback/wide receiver/kick returner. This picture was taken from his Heisman trophy  winning season. The current Michigan football players who wear number 21 must wear a patch on their shoulder that honors Howard. what gets me is the pure intensity and grace of this photo. I played the same positions as Desmond and can fully relate.

Example 3: Website

Here I have the official logo that was debuted last fall for the first ever ice hockey game at the Big House. The game pitted rivals Michigan and Michigan State off in an instant classic. Michigan won 5-0. I was in attendance that day and it was simply amazing. Almost as amazing as this logo, the bold concepts is perfect for grabbing your attention and the colors just flow. The Big House has a few other logos similar to this but this one is my favorite. Hail to the Victors!

Example 1: Daily Travels

Well as you may be able to tell from my first image, I have a bit of a soft spot for the TV show The Simpsons. I believe that this show is one of the best things that this country has brought to the rest of the world in the past 20 years. The past 22 years to be exact. In celebration for my favorite show, I have created this jack o lantern for Halloween this year that features the outline of the show’s main protagonist, Mr. Homer J Simpson. Do’h.

Example 2: Magazine

Here i have uploaded a picture from the year I was born, 1990. The Simpsons cracked the cover of Rolling Stone magazine. An enormous honor, especially for a non musical group or artist. But honestly, the Simpsons are their own type of artists. The cover is 21 years old and shows the lasting and staying power that this amazing cartoon has created.

Example 3: Website

Here I have found the teaser poster to this year’s installment of the Simpsons “Treehouse of Horror” series. This was the 22 year of the series. What I like about this piece is that it shows a piece of artwork from each mini episode. Each installment is made up of 3 mini episodes that have no ties at all to the normal story line. Whch is a good thing seeing as most of the characters have been killed at least once in the Treehouse of Horror series.

Example 1: Daily Travels

Here is a picture of a design I personally created myself. As stated in last weeks post, every year around Halloween time, my friends andI have a backyard football tournament. We are said to be the largest backyard football tournament in northern Macomb county. Anyways, this was the logo for this years event. Every year we design and create a new type of logo and paint it at midfield of my backyard. This years was one of my favorites yet it took about 3 hours to fully paint.

Example 2: Magazine

Here I have found a picture from a recent “sporting news” magazine. It depicts the image from the firey crash from Las Vegas Speedway from last week. This is the wreck that took the life of 2 time Indy 500 Champ Dan Wheldon. Wheldon, 33, was one of the main up and coming stars in the sport of Indy car. This was the last race of the season and the wreck only happened 10 laps into the race. Wheldon was supposed to be carrying the sport on his back. The motorsports world lost a great person who will dearly be missed.

Example 3: Website

In this picture, I found on an Oregon football related website, is the concept of the unforms tat the team will be wearing this season. The Oregon Ducks for the past decade or so have been known for their somewhat outside the box look when it comes to thei uniforms. I personally really enjoy them and actually own one myself. Oregon is able to do this because one of the CEOs of Nike was an Oregon alum and is always giving back to his program. But anyways, awesome!

Example 1: Daily Travels

Here i have uploaded a picture of a welcome sign that me and a few of my friends built and designed. Every hear around halloween time for the past 7 years me and my friends have been having a backyard football tournament at my place. so this ear we built a sign to commemorate the official field and its name. I love the raw authentic look to it and how it has an eerie feel to it.

Example 2: Magazine

Here i have uploaded a picture from a recent issue of Sports Illustrated. it is a shot from the most recent NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Race. I am a huge fan of NASCAR and other motorsports. I found this image to be breathtaking, the thrill and the intensity of 40 plus full sized stock cars coming at you at speeds almost hitting 200 mph is something that this picture comes very close to capturing.

Example 3: Website

Here I found a copy of the new Los Angeles Kings primary jersey. the Kings have been playing in the National Hockey League for almost 50 years now, throughout that time their primary colors have varied between purple and gold to black and silver. this scheme was used back in the 90’s and a reference to the oakland Raiders and is known as the “Gretzky era” for when the Great One play for LA. Personally I love the throwback look and feel it should stay like this.
